Touch down! - Seberang Takir

Sultan Mahmud Airport in Kuala Terengganu

First day in Terengganu and I decided to stay with a family friend at an area called Seberang Takir. Seberang Takir is accessible via the jetty from Kuala Terengganu and isnt very far from the airport.Once you get off at Seberang Takir's jetty, head for Kampung Hujung Tanjung. There are about 50 families living in the village and most of them are involved in some form of cottage industry to supplement their lifestyle.

From batik printing, keropok lekor and prawn cracker making, drying fish in the sun to packing for export: all done here. You can also catch the fishermen coming in with their catch in the early afternoons or late evenings. Sometimes as you look out into the horizon, you may be able to catch a glimpse of the regulars - a large family of dolphins playing not far from the jetty..at Seberang Takir. I wasnt so lucky though! Maybe next time

I passed a few homestay venues on the way there so accommodation isn't a problem here in Terengganu.

Home-stay rooms/houses can range from RM100 to RM200 and you'll get a big room with satellite TV, good showers and air-conditioned rooms.

If you're looking for a cheaper option, dorms are your best bet. There's one on
jalan Sultan Sulaiman which spread over two floors above the travel agency of the same name, this is the best budget option in town. Rooms are simple but spotless, and there's a rooftop terrace and downstairs cafe. Rooms with bathroom go for RM38.You can also get a bed for RM15 in the dorm. There's a little cafe under the same management as the neighboring travel agency. The menu consists of both local and western food, and it's also a good spot to just chill with a drink and meet up with fellow backpackers.

Next post : what I ate on my first day! woohoo! Plus a special star recommendation leads to my first adventure in the beautiful land of Terengganu!
